One gets to see mosaic tiles in a wide array of colors, designs, thicknesses and styles. You get mosaic tiles in ceramic, glass and stone and all have different appearances and uses. Mosaic tiles look very beautiful and can be used for decorating purposes, either indoors or outdoors. Kitchen back splashes, tile insets, wood or laminate insets, on floors, bathrooms, patios, table tops; there are many places where these can be used.
Glass has been used in mosaics for a long time but glass tiles took many years to be created. They can easily break under pressure and thus is quite challenging to work with tiles. They are very commonly used in spas, kitchens, bathrooms today. Color backed glass tiles are also used now days. The look of the glass surface can be given a frosted look or a polished look also.
Ceramic tiles have long been used for floors and they are made of clay and they pass through high temperatures to get a glazed surface. Ceramic tiles may be painted or glazed and can be used for making mosaics also. Generally ceramic tiles have a glazed surface on the top and with regular usage; ceramic tile may loose its sheen and looks worn out.
